Blean Woods and Bison
Before boarding a plane to Inverness, I grabbed a free copy of Wired. This isn't a publication that I would normally read but it was the new year's issue dedicated to conservation with David Attenborough on the cover. Flipping through the magazine, I stopped on an intriguing article about a Kent Wildlife Trust project utilsing the introduction of European bison to restore woodland in Blean Woods. This was fascinating to me for many reasons but mostly due to the the fact that I have fond memories of walking through Blean Woods most days while studying at The University of Kent, Canterbury. Walking from campus to the woods, I would often see sheep and/or cows grazing. Soon, visitors to the Blean may also see bison, Iron Age pigs, Exmoor ponies, and Longhorn cattle.
